Holy Crap! you need to read book one, The Assassin's List FOR SURE! I like the characters, as long as they don't make it too wishy washy, lovey dovey going forward. Book one sets up these characters and their mission. If you are petrified of what could happen with terrorism on our soil, I'm telling you, get The Assassin's List. I like the fact that they still haven't caught the mastermind behind Book One, so it's great to read the continuing saga. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE ITProduct details

Oath to Defend Adam Drake series Volume 2 Scott Matthews Books Reviews
After thoroughly enjoying the first book in his Adam Drake series, Scott Matthews outdid himself with another incredible book.
Oath to Defend, while enjoyable by itself, continues the tale started in The Assassin’s List. Once again, the scenario seems torn out of the nightly news. The characters are complex, and the locations incredibly detailed. You will find yourself cheering for the good guys, and booing the bad guys.
All in all, a very satisfying read. I'm really glad there is another book in the series, so I don't have to wait; I can start reading without delay. Do yourself a favor, buy this book right now!
I don't award them often, but this thriller was deserving of five stars in my opinion! Took a bit to grasp who was who at first (probably because I hadn't read book one in the series) but I really come to enjoy the characters as the book progressed which is a sure sign of a great read. Action became so intense toward the close of the book I found myself racing to want to finish it. Unusual in that it had not one, but two strong female characters present opposite several male leads as well as some fun dialogue amongst the sexes evident by passages like, "You lost control of things as soon as the women took over your kitchen." Also had some hard hitting passages like, "When someone knowingly cooperates with terrorists to make a buck, he's an enemy combatant in my book" and "America was afraid to use its power. If he ran the country, every drug smuggler he caught would be executed..." that left their mark. Given the length of the review (which is long for me) and my desire to purchase more books in the series (which I surely do) then it earns top honors!
Once I finished the book, I prayed that this book does not give more ideas to the evil minded terrorists abound in this earth!
While I really enjoyed this book for the plot, the unraveling of the secret by the HERO, and saving the lives and property of thousands of innocent people. For no fault of theirs, thousands lost their lives in the destruction of the twin towers arising out of the fanatic views of one man and his thought process, and the intolerance to other faiths.
Brotherhood, the ISIS, the Bin Laden and the likes have been up in arms over the civilized world and people who have taken the "OATH TO DEFEND" are the real heroes who are keeping the world as safe as possible for the innocent.
Drake, one had taken oath to defend indeed defends and saves thousands from disaster when a fanatic plans to destroy a dam by smuggling a nuclear device.
From the start to finish the author keeps the reader totally hypnotized. Excellent story-telling gift, simple straight plot, uncomplicated characterization, and very fast pace.
What else do you need to be entertained and engrossed in a book for the next four hours!! Go ahead and enjoy!
This book is the sequel to "The Assassins List", on which I previously reported. While this book could stand alone, as often happens with sequels, snippets of what occurred in the first book work their way into the sequel. For that reason, and at the risk of this book becoming a bit of a spoiler for "Assassins", I'd recommend reading them in order.
Having said that, there is a maturity of writing in this book not found in the first book. I don't re-tell story lines in my reviews, but this book had good plot development, by that I mean there was good rising action, followed by a definite climax leading to a resolution. The setting was well crafted so the reader has a good sense of where and when the story takes place as the setting unfolds. The theme was overall moralistic in tone. The good guys characters are well developed as are the bad guys, The book is definitely in my genre of drug cartel meets Feds resistance; although in this case it is more radical Islam vs. Homeland Security in nature.
There was good thread in that I did not have to re-read pages in order to recall where I had left off when I later picked the book back up. In short, it was an interesting story line, one that held the "punch line" as to motive until virtually the end.
This writer says he has a third book coming out and so I'll look for it.
When I acquired "Oath to Defend", I was unaware that it was book #2 in a series. Before starting it, I was concerned that I might have trouble following the story because I missed the previous installment. I found the concern unwarranted, the story makes reference to occurrences in book #1, but it was a great stand-alone story.
Oath to Defend takes readers into the world of smuggling, espionage, drug cartels and fanatical terrorists where death is an everyday occurrence and consciences are non-existent. Now the United States is targeted - suicide bombers looking forward to martyr themselves and then joining their 72 virgins in paradise. The terrorist seem to always be a step ahead of the people looking for them. It's a game of cat and mouse...hundreds of Americans have already died needlessly - hundreds of thousands more will perish if the terrorists succeed in their mission! Adam Drake and his team of operatives must find them and stop them from detonating a nuclear bomb.
I sat on the edge of my seat intrigued and sometimes holding my breath while watching this story unfold...aware that something like this could very well happen in the near future. The characters are well developed and the story moves smoothly. Great job Mr. Matthews! I have already downloaded book #3 and can't wait to begin that adventure. Highly recommended!
